Many pets are lost or misplaced during natural disasters and most are not reunited with their families.
What can you do to make sure that Mittens and Buddy stay safe during an emergency?
HAVE A PLAN
Do not leave your pet inside during a fire, or outside during a storm.
If you have to evacuate DON'T LEAVE YOUR PET BEHIND. Decide ahead of time where you might go if evacuation is necessary. Many public shelters will not allow animals so it's important to know what options you have. Do you have friends or family that will take you in with your pets? Are their motels/hotels around that allow pets? If your pet has to be boarded do you have the necessary vaccines and documentation?
Consider packing a Pet Survival Kit. You might include food, water, medications, copies of your veterinary records, and first aid supplies.
Always, ALWAYS make sure your pet is wearing up-to-date identification tags.
